Mission-statement
Straattheater.Net ("Streettheatre.Net") wants to be the point of information on streettheatre and theatre on location in The Netherlands and Belgium, for both the public as the professional. The public will be served by an extensive schedule, reports of performances and links. The professional, both artists (groups and individuals), as agencies and organisers, will be served by:
- the publication of information, like press releases, interviews, reviews, tourdates and addresses;
- offering a user-friendly interactive component: by a discussionlist and an on-line forum can be discussed about various subjects;
- every other way in which the wishes of the public and professional can be met.
By the way: Straattheater.Net is not only accessible for the well-known artists. Starting artists are welcome as well.
All of the above is offered without any thresholds at a correct and independent way, so as many people as possible can use this extensive source of information.
History
In April 1999 Straattheater.Net started somewhere on the internet as a small schedule with the most known streettheatrefestivals. In the beginning of 2003 Straattheater.Net has grown to THE website of The Netherlands and Belgium at the domain of streettheatre and theatre on location. In the low season the website is visited about 30 times a day and the number of visitors grow to 80 a day in the high season. To get an idea of the size of the website: in 2002 it contained a schedule with over 230 activities, more than 630 links to other websites and over 50 national and international artists use the promotion-pages.
The persons behind Straattheater.Net share their interest in streettheatre and theatre on location. The maintenance of the site is done by Gerard Wijnands, secretary of Amersfoorts Theater Terras, and Johan Vanhie, actor and director in amateurtheatre (Brugge, Belgium). Both work on a voluntary base for Straattheater.Net.
Gerard Wijnands
Gerard Wijnands started the predecessor of Straattheater.Net in 1999 (see history) and at the moment he's still the owner of Straattheater.Net. From June 1998 till September 2004 he's active as secretary for Amersfoorts Theater Terras. Theater Terras is a (volunteer) organisation which programs several performances of national and international theatregroups. All shows are performed at places where one normally can't see theatre: an old factory, in the woods, a park etc. Besides those responsibilities he's also in charge of one or more regular performances (just like his colleagues) and he has been co-ordinator from Theater Terras for some co-productions (a.o. Tranquillitatis of The Lunatics and Kopkisten I of Warner & Consorten).
Next to the activities for Theater Terras he is also a volunteer -also from 1998- involved with Festival Etcetera. Festival Etcetera is the streettheatrefestival of Amersfoort (NL).
To earn money for his hobby Straattheater.Net and to pay for the cost of living Gerard works 32 hours a week for an insurance company.
Johan Vanhie
A man Straattheater.Net cannot do without is Johan Vanhie. Johan is responsible for the Belgium part of the website. In everyday life Johan is teacher in Brugge (B). He spends his spare time on acting and directing amateurtheatre and the announcing, watching and enjoying of streettheatre, theatre on location, circus and other acts. For Belgium and northern France he is the person to talk to if you would like to announce or promote your event through this website.
